Just wanted to say thanks!
October 25, 2009, 02:42:45 AM
After getting the itch again as I do every couple years to play I-War 2, I remembered a large mod that was a WIP last time I checked/thought of it; and found out part of it was finished and you continue to work on the best game out there (closely with Freespace 2).  Also saw (unless I'm blind... very possible) no one bothered to make a thread to say thanks for all the effort you guys have put in over the years at keeping this game alive and kicking, so here we are!  I think everyone who loves this game shares my disappointment it didn't get the attention it deserves, but despite that yall keep trucking and keep it interesting for the few of us (and yourselves) that love it and play it again and again, and for that I thank you!

Thanks!  Feels pretty lonely at times, developing a mod for a game whose community expired long long ago...but, it will be worth it in the end.  As you say, I have a love of the game myself, so once I do finish Unstable Space, I am going to play it!  And mod it some more!  Maybe someone will even join in with.  Certainly a few people will be able to play it and enjoy it as well.  So I will press on!

Yes I agree. Thank you, I can't wait to play the full game. Whoever is behind all this is awesome. I just wish I had the knowledge to help out.

I just checked out the Unstable Space Beta, and I wanted to say thank you for coming back and doing this.

Do you have any literature about modding for I-War2 that can help someone learn to code?  I have been modding Paradox Interactive games for a while now and might be able to offer some help if I can learn this format.

Additionally, have you written to your old team members about the release?  I suspect some of them might have a week or two to devote to helping you clean up the project, especially now that they can see a result.

I agree. Thank you very much.  I do not have the skills necessary to help or I happily would.

Paradox!?  That is just my favourite game developer.  I am currently spending most of my freetime on this, and Crusader Kings 2.  I've never modded Paradox games, so I can't say what similarities there might be with modding EoC, but I will lend whatever help I can.

The was an SDK released some years back, and is hosted at I-war2.com (I think) and here that contains detailed help files for Pogging(coding) with EOC.  If that is not available here, I will try to find it and add it to the downloads section.  Additionally, we have a wiki, through the 'development' link on the right, which contains important information for setting up a Developers' Environment for modding with US specifically. With those two bases covered you will be all set to leap into actual coding with Pog.  I think it is a easy language to work with, as I have no prior coding experience whatsoever, but have managed how to make rudimentary code over the past few months, fairly frustration free.

Let me know if you have trouble fiding the POG SDK, and/or setting up the Dev environment, and I will lend whatever help I can.

As for contacting old team members...I am in touch with them off and on, and they should know about the release.  It would be wonderful if they showed a renewed interest in the game, but I think they have just moved on to other things.

I will check all of that out soon.  I have been busy with a new mod for HOI3 called Modern Warfare and catching up on localisations for EU3:MEIOU.  I use the same username on the paradoxplaza, if you want to look me up and add me on there.  I am pretty fond of CK2 as well.  I really enjoy the CK2+ mod.

I don't think I have ever posted at the Paradox forums, though I do frequent it.  I've played every EU derived game since the first, though none so much or as deeply as CK.  Touched on mods as well, but usually just end back up with the vanilla.

Do let me know if you have any trouble finding any of that info for the SDK, etc., as I am always happy to see another EoC modder.  It is a lonely breed, but can be quite satisfying, as it is relatively easy to see physical results of your coding (represented in game of course).

Here's the POG SDK
May 08, 2012, 07:15:41 PM
Hi all,

I have attached the POG SDK that I have been using in my own tentative explorations of EoC (and now US) modding. Hopefully it uploaded properly.

Admin, delete this post if it isn't needed. The SDK perhaps ought to be part of the US site if it isn't already. A Google search does not lead to a page with the SDK in the first page of listings

* IW2-EOC_Pog_Scripting_SDK.exe (915 KB - downloaded 27 times.)

I really need to create a whole package that can be grabbed, downloaded, and used to immediately get anyone up an running at modding US.  I don't want to lose any potential modders, as modding US can be extremely fun, and easy, once you get over the initial hump.
