New Loadout System and Ships

Just a little update to show what I have been working on. I have been spending my time balancing the combat a little more, with the aim to making it a bit 'faster' and exciting. In hand with this I have changed most of the weapons and particle effects, slightly, and have revamped the 'nuke' missile explosions. Further, I have rebalanced a lot of the NPC ships, and the way they are setup in game, making certain regions' and factions' ships much weaker or stronger.

Finally I have been working in depth with GranpaTrout's awesome new loadout package, and have it working very very nicely. Currently both the player and wingman ships can have many of their systems changed out. There are also two classes of weapons (three if you include capital class), one that is mounted internally, and one that is mounted externally. When mounted externally, you can acutally see the correct weapon mounted on the ship. Not all classes of ships have these mountpoints, but at least 5 do.

That reminds me, I have also made a number of new player pilotable ships. Take a look at the screenshots below to see one of them (a refitted Dreadnaught, able to mount external weapons pods, and the advanced comsec), and a few of the external weapons in action.

Unstable Space Restarts Development!
Sunday, 07 October 2007
After nearly a year of the mod being almost clinically dead, signs of life, and strong ones, are appearing again. A fan of the mod, and the genre in general, has taken on the task of leading a new team. We have begun making plans for our first release, and work has already begun on it's development. Our first iteration will be a back to basics for Unstable Space, focusing almost entirely on the capsule jump total transformation. This was always the intent of Unstable Space, so we intend to bring it to fruition. We hope to have a testable version of this first iteration out very soon. Stay tuned for more information to come.

Additionally we will be switching to using our new Torn Stars forum for discussing the mod and interacting with anone interested in it's development. We will still visit the I war Community forums of course, but for the most part information/discussion/announcments and bug reporting etc will be handled here.

Several modders have already signed on and begun work behind the scenes. We are always interested in any help we can get, particularly from coders. If you feel like lending a hand, let us know via the forum.

Heres to a playable build of Unstable Space by Christmas!

GrandpaTrout Resigns!
Friday, 02 March 2007
Well, with a heavy heart I will copy this post from the forum:

Hey All,

I am sorry to say that my life situation has changed, and I no longer have the hours and hours needed to code the Torn Stars project. I apologize to those who have been putting in hours testing.

It has been very good fun. And there is a huge code base for everything from loadout to cargo ships and every kind of GUI. Plus tools for geography creation, and economies, and balance spreadsheets etc. Plenty of material to support the efforts of others if they have the time to put into it. The source ships with each release.

If anyone needs help or assistance making sense of things, please feel free to contact me. I should be around the forum for a while longer, so feel free to post POG questions.
