Now that we have almost unlimited ships for the player (about 7 for the US release, but more can be added thanks to the new Loadout) I recently realised that now we have a cockpit that doesn't always match the ship. In Eoc one cockpit sufficed, as every ship Cal flew actually had the same cockpit. How fortunate. Of course the cockpit was also just window dressing, as all the important info is stored on his helmet's hud.
We can't change the helmet, or where and how the Hud is displayed (as far as I know) but we can add new cockpits. MajorTom from the I-war2 forum found an easy way to do it long ago, POG free. So I have been working on building a set of cockpits to use with some of the new ships we will be supporting. Not an easy task. Especially since I don't really know how to model...
It would be wonderful if some highly skilled space-sim fan modellers out there suddenly felt the urge to jump in and make some ship specific cockpits. If anyone is so inclined, I have all the tools to convert models from any major 3d software into useable models for EoC/US. However, in the meantime I will press forward trying to make something passable on my own, for a post release addon.
I currently have 4 cockpits on the go. One for the Yellowstone Truck, one for the Frogminer, one for the old Comsec (hence the patcom or old corvette) and one for the Destroyer. I have posted some shots of works in progress in the Gallery. (0) |
